All you need to know about Cavall den Borràs

Like Illetes and Levante, Cavall den Borràs Beach is located within the surroundings of Ses Salines Natural Park. Among the three beaches in this protected area, it is undoubtedly the least crowded.
It is located just 2 kilometers away from La Savina port, and its waters are just as crystal clear as the rest of Formentera’s beaches.

Protected by sand dunes and a pine and juniper forest, Cavall den Borràs Beach is a great option for those traveling from the port along the coast until they reach the first area of sandy beach and turquoise waters.

How to reach….

As I mentioned earlier, due to its proximity to La Savina port, it is quite easy to reach Cavall den Borràs Beach by walking along the coast and taking the dirt road used by the former salt workers. If you choose this option instead of using any means of transportation, the route would involve following the path along the passenger transit port, then continuing towards the fishing port and taking the exit that leads north, following the coastline until you reach Cavall den Borràs. It shouldn’t take more than 15 minutes to walk, with the turquoise waters of Formentera on your left side.

It is advisable to apply sunscreen before embarking on this walk, as even though the distance is short, the sun can be strong during the summer.

If you prefer to access the beach by car or motorcycle, Cavall den Borràs Beach has its own entrance separate from the one used for Illetes or Levante beaches. There is a shaded parking area, and vehicle access is limited to the maximum capacity of the parking lot, in addition to the corresponding fee for accessing it.

Quad bikes are prohibited from entering, but walking or cycling to the beach is free of charge.

Services at Cavall den Borràs

Cavall den Borràs Beach offers limited dining options. There are only two establishments that provide service on this beach, and it is highly recommended to make a reservation in advance to ensure a table and avoid it being fully booked if you decide to dine there at the last minute.

The beach also offers rental services for sun loungers and umbrellas, with prices set according to the standard concessions on the island of Formentera.

There is a designated channel for the entry and exit of inflatable boats to the shore of the beach, and it is important to avoid swimming in that area as it is prohibited due to boat traffic.

As of the time of writing, Cavall den Borràs Beach does not have lifeguard services, and the nearest one can be found at Illetes Beach. However, in case of any emergency, you will notice strategically placed signs along Cavall den Borràs Beach and most beaches in Formentera.
These signs display an emergency location number  that can be used to report the location of the emergency (112).

When to visit Cavall den Borràs?

Due to its northwest orientation, Cavall den Borràs Beach is ideal on days when the wind blows from the east or southeast. During such times, the sea is calm and waveless, showcasing the full range of blues and turquoise that characterize the waters of Formentera.

However, it’s worth noting that due to its proximity to the port of La Savina and the constant ferry traffic with Ibiza, there is always a small wave breaking on the shore of Cavall den Borràs Beach. So, even on the calmest days, you will experience a gentle ebb and flow of waves on the sand, although it’s not a significant issue.

Furthermore, Cavall den Borràs Beach is a perfect spot to enjoy breathtaking sunsets over the horizon, with the silhouette of Ibiza in the background and the distinctive shapes of Es Vedrà and Es Vedranell islets.
